The “Creative Nebraska” Awards honor the most original and daring advertising work in the state. KidGlov’s winning campaign for Sirius Managed Services used an inventive approach to get the attention of C-Suite IT leaders. Instead of opting for a typical direct mail brochure, the team created a magic-themed box that would entice potential clients and leave a lasting impression. Each package element was carefully designed to reinforce the value of Sirius’ services and highlight the company’s attention to detail and quality. Overall, the package served as an effective marketing tool. Meetings with prospects magically happened, new business was won, and IT challenges vanished. “I am proud of our KidGlov team for continuing to produce strategically creative work on behalf of our clients,” said Lyn Wineman , president and chief strategist at KidGlov. “...

This article originally appeared in the December 2022/January 2023 issue of B2B Magazine . Photo by Bill Sitzmann . By Kim Reiner Whether it’s social, scientific, economic, or political, businesses and nonprofits today are more often taking a position on issues. Publicly aware companies have become the norm, touting their policies to stand out from a crowd when trying to bring in new clients or employees and build audiences. In fact, many brands proudly share their values publicly on social media, in advertisements, and on their homepages. Yet very few businesses–at least in Nebraska–take the extra step to go beyond talking the talk and proving their commitment through a B Corp Certification . The private certification of for-profit companies means a business meets high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency ranging from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and input materials. In December 2021, the marketing firm KidGlov—a ...

Seven Steps to Create a Successful Annual Marketing Plan

There are two types of marketers in the world; those who love creating a strategic marketing plan, and those who look upon this process with dread. I’m the first kind of marketer. I absolutely love creating strategic marketing plans, and I’ve done well over 100 plans for a variety of clients in my career.  Regardless of which camp you are in, I have seven steps that will lead you to a successful plan. Understand your goals The first step is to understand your organization’s business goals. The difference between art and advertising is that advertising is intended to achieve specific organizational goals. Marketing, advertising, and branding should be seen as an investment towards results versus simply being a line item.  If you’re not part of your organization’s leadership team, ask them to share those goals as your starting point. Usually, you will have no problem getting them to talk about those goals because they want to make sure you too, are focused in on them.  ...

How Social Impact Organizations Can Connect to Like-Minded Communities

I recently attended a conference in Colorado with some regional B Corps that are all like-minded people doing the same thing. But we all had this common thread of having the B Corp certification. KidGlov is proud to be one of a handful of B Corporations here in Nebraska . We’re certified by a third-party that we are using business as a force for good. So, we exist in this world, not just to make a profit, but to do good in the world. During that conference, I learned how it’s more important than ever to stay on top of what’s working best for social impact agencies. One of those includes taking time to make connections with like-minded people in your community. In this industry, you probably wear about ten hats in your agency and are very busy but make the time and understand the value of staying connected to like-minded individuals. Here are three tips to maximize your time when making those connections.  Bring a question, leave with ideas Prior to going to a networking event ...

The Meaning Behind Your Brand’s Color Choices

Color is such a big part of our sensory toolkit and helps us develop emotionally impactful campaigns. And that’s because there’s an energy and psychology to color, a meaning that drives us, even if we’re not completely conscious of it. Once you understand these meanings, you can harness the power of color to create more effective marketing. Below, I’ll discuss color theory, and then talk about three ways you can use color to amp up your brand.    Color Theory In art class, you probably learned about the color wheel. It’s a graphic demonstration of the spectrum of colors. On this wheel, there are three primary colors: red, yellow, and blue; and three secondary colors: purple, green, and orange. Colors directly opposite each other on the wheel are known as complimentary colors. Placing these colors next to each other makes each one feel more vibrant and intense. From a psychological standpoint, pairing complimentary colors can create a balance between the calm serenity of coo...

Content Is My Superhero

Are you a superhero or a villain? Because with great power comes great responsibility. Thanks for that reminder, Spider-Man. As content marketers, we have the power to reach customers organically, deliver a personalized targeted message, and provide audience education, because the fact is customers are increasingly turned off by salesy messages that come across as unauthentic, AKA the villain. Instead of pushing customers to do one thing or another, let’s be the superhero that saves the day and builds trust, solves problems, and increases understanding. Like any good superhero, marketers’ jobs are also to serve and protect. Whether it’s a brand message or a product, sorry, villain, with your sneaky ways, but consumers are onto you. So, Avengers assemble and plug in that bat signal because here are the facts: Content works. Those in the financial world should embrace your inner superhero and throw on your cape, because there is no kryptonite in this plan. In fact, HubSpot reports 70% ...
